Historic Milestone for SJCC: Laimon Becomes First Woman to Score in Home Game, Now Up to 7 Points for Season
San José, Calif. (AP) — Despite a 54–10 defeat to Diablo Valley College Vikings on Saturday night at Jaguar Stadium, the San José City College Jaguars celebrated a landmark moment: kicker Jineen Laimon became the first woman in Jaguar football history to score points in a home game.
Laimon's extra point in the second quarter — following Joey Campanga's 1-yard run — not only put the Jaguars on the board but also etched her name into SJCC lore. Already having scored her first points of the season in the game at Santa Rosa, she now has a total of 7 points this season.
The Vikings (6-1, 1-1) dominated from the start. Quarterback Kalani McLeod threw four touchdown passes in the first half, connecting early with Darien Maragh for a 7-yard score and then finding Miles Dixon twice (14 and 26 yards) to build a commanding 26-0 lead. A 41-yard interception return by Marley Alapati added to the mounting pressure, pushing the margin to 33-0 before Laimon's historic kick.
Dixon finished with 12 catches for 199 yards and three touchdowns, including a 58-yard strike from backup quarterback Jayden Macedo in the third quarter to extend the lead to 40-7. The Vikings piled up 569 yards of total offense, averaging 9.3 yards per play.
For the Jaguars (1-6, 0-2), the standout performer was running back Joey Fussell Jr., who rushed for 120 yards on 15 carries, including a 66-yard highlight that set up a fourth-quarter field goal by Aiden Mulcahy.
San José was beset by inefficiencies and turnovers — converting only 6 of 22 third-down attempts and facing relentless pressure from the Vikings' defense. Still, the spotlight of the evening belonged to Laimon's barrier-breaking achievement: not just scoring in her home stadium, but raising the visibility of women in collegiate football.
While the scoreboard told a story of one-sided dominance, Saturday's game also delivered a moment of significance for the Jaguars' program. San José will look to regroup and build on the positive momentum when the team hits the road next week.
