Royster, Jaguars run past Gavilan 97–40 on the road
GILROY, Calif. — Taj Royster scored 17 points on a perfect shooting night and San José City College overwhelmed Gavilan College 97–40 on Wednesday night.
San José wasted no time asserting control, racing to a 50–23 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and relentless work on the glass. The Jaguars never let up after the break, matching their first-half output with 47 more points to turn the game into a rout.
Royster went 8 of 8 from the field and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead a balanced SJCC attack. Ryan Baker added 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, while Armon Naweed scored 15 points off the bench, knocking down three 3-pointers. Jaden Sweeney chipped in eight points, and Jeremiah Butler finished with eight points and two assists in limited minutes.
San José shot 57.6 percent from the field and outrebounded Gavilan 58–11, dominating both ends of the floor. Dylan Galvan directed the offense with eight assists and two steals as the Jaguars finished with 19 assists overall.
Gavilan was led by Uriah Brown, who scored 16 points off the bench. Amari Reason added 10, but the Rams struggled to generate consistent offense, shooting 28.6 percent from the field.
The game was played at Gavilan College as San José cruised to the 57-point victory.
