San José City College Jaguars grind out 60–51 road win over Monterey Peninsula College
MONTEREY, Calif. — On a night when every possession mattered, San José City College leaned on defense, depth, and timely shooting to finish the job.
The Jaguars methodically built a first-half cushion and held firm late to secure a 60–51 victory over Monterey Peninsula on Friday, earning a gritty Coast Conference road win behind a balanced scoring effort and steady rebounding.
San José opened with purpose, attacking the glass and moving the ball, taking a 26–17 lead after the first half. When Monterey Peninsula matched the Jaguars point-for-point in the second, San José answered each surge with stops and second-chance opportunities.
Fresh legs made the difference.
Savion Daniels sparked the Jaguars off the bench with 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting, providing a steady interior presence. Dylan Galvan added 11 points, including three three-pointers, and filled the stat sheet with four assists and three steals.
Muhammad Singleton chipped in 10 points and four assists, while Taj Royster controlled the boards with eight rebounds to go with five assists and two steals. San José finished with 19 assists on 21 made field goals, a sign of the crisp ball movement that defined the night.
The Jaguars shot 46 percent from three-point range (6 of 13) and outrebounded Monterey Peninsula 28–22, limiting second chances while forcing tough looks on the other end. Monterey Peninsula leaned on Corvell Simmons' 17 points and Julian Johnson-Rodriguez's 11, most of which came at the free-throw line, but the hosts struggled to find rhythm from deep, connecting on just 2 of 12 beyond the arc.
Each time the Lobos trimmed the deficit in the second half, San José responded with a defensive stand or a timely basket. Free throws down the stretch helped the Jaguars keep separation and close out the final minutes. It wasn't flashy, but it was effective, the kind of disciplined road performance that wins in conference play.
For San José, it was another step forward. Defense, rebounding, and contributions up and down the roster proved enough to carry the Jaguars home with a hard-earned victory.
