San José City College Jaguars rally past Cabrillo College with dominant second half, 63–54
SAN JOSÉ, Calif. — It took a half for San José City College to find its rhythm. Once it did, there was no slowing the surge.
The Jaguars flipped the game after the break, turning a halftime deficit into a decisive push and defeating Cabrillo, 63–54, on Wednesday night with a bruising second-half performance at home.
Cabrillo carried a 36–22 lead into the locker room, capitalizing on early shooting and second-chance looks. But San José answered with defensive pressure, rebounding and patience on offense, outscoring the visitors 41–18 over the final 20 minutes.
Ryan Baker sparked the comeback with 18 points, attacking the lane and knocking down timely shots to keep the Jaguars within reach before the rally took hold.
Inside, Taj Royster controlled the glass with 14 rebounds and three blocks, anchoring a defensive effort that limited Cabrillo to one shot on most trips.
Muhammad Singleton added 12 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, filling multiple roles as San José steadied the pace, while Dylan Galvan chipped in 10 points and two three-pointers.
The Jaguars finished with a 38–35 edge on the boards, including 13 offensive rebounds that helped generate second-chance points during the second-half run.
San José tightened defensively, too. Cabrillo shot just 18 points in the second half and struggled from deep all night, hitting 4 of 18 from three-point range. The Jaguars countered with rim protection and active hands, recording eight blocks and forcing tough looks late in the shot clock.
Cabrillo was led by Jonny Gasologa's 10 points and Mike Carson's nine, but the early momentum faded as San José's defense took over.
By the final minutes, the Jaguars had turned a double-digit hole into a comfortable margin, knocking down free throws and using the clock to seal it.
It wasn't the prettiest night offensively. It was tougher than that. Rebounds, stops, and patience defined the comeback.
For San José, it was the kind of grind-it-out win that builds confidence as conference play deepens, proof that when the Jaguars defend and control the glass, they can dictate the game.
