West Valley Rallies Past Jaguars 64–54 After Big Second Half
SARATOGA, Calif. — A hot start wasn't enough for San José City College on Wednesday night.
The Jaguars carried an 11-point halftime lead into the break but were outscored by 20 in the second half as West Valley College stormed back for a 64–54 conference victory.
San José led 33–22 at halftime behind balanced scoring and steady defense, limiting West Valley to just 8-of-23 shooting in the opening period. But the Vikings found their rhythm after the break, pouring in 42 second-half points to flip the game.
CJ Willenborg led West Valley with 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including three 3-pointers, and Caleb Asante and William Amoah added 11 points apiece. Amoah also controlled the paint with nine rebounds and five blocks as the Vikings tightened up defensively down the stretch.
For San José, Muhammad Singleton paced the offense with 15 points and six rebounds, while Dylan Galvan added 14 points and five assists. Jeremiah Butler finished with eight points and five rebounds, and Savion Daniels contributed eight off the bench.
The Jaguars struggled to find their shooting touch in the second half, finishing 22 of 58 (37.9 percent) from the field and 5 of 17 from 3-point range. Ryan Baker, coming off a strong previous outing, was held to two points on 0-of-5 shooting.
West Valley capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 16 of 27 attempts, and held a 32–27 rebounding edge. The Vikings also recorded seven blocks and forced key empty possessions late to secure the comeback.
San José kept it close midway through the second half, but a decisive run by West Valley erased the deficit and gave the hosts control in the final minutes.
The loss snaps the Jaguars' 13-game winning streak and sets up a critical stretch run in conference play as San José looks to regroup and respond in its next outing.
