Jaguars Go 1–2 at Home Motors Tournament, Royster Powers Finale Win
SANTA MAREA, CA — San José City College wrapped up its weekend at the Home Motors Tournament with a 1–2 showing, bouncing back from two razor-thin losses behind a breakout performance from sophomore forward Taj Royster. The Jaguars (5–3) fell to host Allan Hancock and San Diego City before closing with a convincing win over Barstow.
Hancock 70, SJCC 63 — Slow Start Costs Jaguars (Nov. 21)
A dominant second half wasn't enough to erase a rough opening 20 minutes as SJCC dug itself a deep road hole. Allan Hancock blitzed the Jaguars with a 49-point first half, building a 21-point lead that SJCC never fully erased despite outscoring the Bulldogs 35–21 after halftime.
Taj Royster was nearly perfect, scoring 15 points on 6-for-6 shooting while adding nine rebounds.
Jeremiah Butler led SJCC with 17 points, and Savion Daniels added 10 points and five boards.
The Jaguars won the rebounding battle 36–35 and held Hancock to 21 second-half points, but 19 turnovers proved too costly.
San Diego City 65, SJCC 64 — Jaguars Fall at the Buzzer (Nov. 22)
In the most dramatic game of the weekend, SJCC saw a late lead slip away as San Diego City rallied behind clutch perimeter shooting and a 40-point second half.
The Jaguars shot an efficient 50% from the field and built a six-point halftime lead, but San Diego City's bench came alive — particularly guard Junior Camacho, who scored 15 points with three threes.
Savion Daniels delivered his best outing of the tournament with 17 points (7-for-11 FG) and four rebounds.
Ryan Baker came off the bench with a huge spark, adding 15 points and hitting three triples.
Royster contributed 6 points and 8 rebounds, while Butler and Galvan each scored 8.
Despite shooting better from the field and from three, the Jaguars were edged 65–64 in the final seconds.
SJCC 62, Barstow 46 — Royster Erupts for 37 (Nov. 23)
SJCC closed the tournament in emphatic fashion, riding a monster performance from Taj Royster, who put together one of the best scoring displays in recent program history: 37 points on 15-of-22 shooting, plus nine rebounds, a block, and three steals.
The Jaguars controlled the game throughout, holding Barstow to 31.9% shooting and just 22 rebounds. SJCC's physicality showed in a 47–22 rebounding advantage, including 16 offensive boards.
Ron Jones Jr. added 7 points and three rebounds off the bench, and Savion Daniels continued his strong tournament with 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Kolton Smith and Will Hutcheon chipped in valuable rotation minutes, and the Jaguars' defense never let Barstow threaten.
