SAN JOSE— Catcher Talynn Madrid delivered the decisive blow with a two-run home run in the sixth inning, and Feather River held on to defeat San José City College, 6-4, completing a doubleheader sweep Thursday at San José.
The Eagles won both games by the same margin of three runs, outscoring the Jaguars 13-7 on the day.
Feather River wasted no time in the nightcap, with Nina Taylor driving in two with a first-inning single to score McKynlee Gay and Faith Helmandollar.
San José responded with its biggest swing of the afternoon. In the third inning, second baseman Belle Walker launched a three-run home run — her first of the season — to score Makenna Sieling and Jaelynn Corona and put the Jaguars ahead, 3-2.
The lead was short-lived. Feather River retook the advantage in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Emma Robles to tie the game, followed by a run-scoring single from Lily Lee to put the Eagles back in front, 4-3.
Madrid then put the game away in the sixth, sending a two-run shot over the fence to score Mya Roberts and extend the lead to 6-3.
Sieling provided one last jolt for the home crowd, hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-4, but San José could get no closer.
Madrid finished 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Gay went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Taylor drove in two runs for the second time on the day.
Walker led San José offensively, going 1-for-4 with her three-run homer and finishing with three RBI on the day across both games. Sieling went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Arianna Vergara added a triple among her two hits.
Brittney Byram earned the win in relief for Feather River, tossing four innings and allowing three runs — two earned — while striking out two. Byram also took the win in Game 1, making her 1-0 on the season.
