San Jose Women's Basketball Dominates Gavilan, 84-46
SAN JOSE — Synis Byrd scored 26 points and Hayley Johnson added 24 as San Jose City College rolled to an 84-46 victory over Gavilan College in Coast Conference women's basketball action Tuesday.
The Jaguars (15-8, 3-2) shot 54 percent from the field and controlled the game from start to finish, building leads of 8-1 after the first quarter and 31-12 at halftime before cruising to the 38-point victory.
Byrd was efficient from beyond the arc, hitting 6 of 13 three-pointers while adding five rebounds and five assists. Johnson dominated inside, going 9-for-14 from the field and grabbing 13 rebounds for a double-double.
Ember Navarro contributed 10 points and five rebounds for San Jose, which held a 39-21 advantage on the glass. The Jaguars forced 20 turnovers while committing just 15.
Guin Lines led Gavilan (1-17, 0-5) with 16 points off the bench on 6-of-14 shooting. Emiliana Bejarano added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Izzy Cline chipped in 12 points for the Rams.
Gavilan struggled from the field, shooting just 31.5 percent overall and 26.9 percent from three-point range. The Rams were outscored 22-18 in the fourth quarter after trailing 62-28 through three periods.
Serenity McCoy scored six points off the bench for San Jose, while Luciana Ortiz added four points and four assists. Kaydin Meyer contributed six points and three rebounds in the winning effort.
