Jaguars Jump Out Early, Cruise Past Monterey Peninsula 60–31
SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José City College made sure there would be no suspense Wednesday night.
The Jaguars stormed out to a 26-point first quarter and never looked back, defeating Monterey Peninsula College 60–31 in conference play.
San Jose (17-6, 4-1) overwhelmed the Lobos (1-20, 0-4) from the opening tip, forcing turnovers, crashing the boards, and turning defense into easy offense. Monterey Peninsula did not score in the first quarter as the Jaguars built a commanding 26–0 lead.
Kaydin Meyer led the way with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, adding five rebounds and two blocks. Synise Byrd contributed 18 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, knocking down four 3-pointers to stretch the defense.
The Jaguars' defensive pressure set the tone. San Jose collected 15 steals and forced 33 turnovers, repeatedly disrupting Monterey Peninsula's offensive rhythm. Daven Woodham added five steals and seven rebounds, while Rian Henderson chipped in six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
San Jose held the Lobos to just 26.7 percent shooting and 1-of-12 from 3-point range. Maryjane Haro paced Monterey Peninsula with 14 points, but consistent scoring opportunities were difficult to find against the Jaguars' swarming defense.
The Jaguars controlled the glass as well, outrebounding the Lobos 35–21, including 15 offensive boards that led to second-chance points.
Though Monterey Peninsula found some offensive rhythm late, scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter, the outcome had long been decided.
Behind a dominant first quarter and balanced scoring throughout the lineup, San Jose secured a decisive home victory and continued its strong run in conference play.
