Stifling Defense Powers Jaguars to 84–26 Blowout of Foothill
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Defense set the tone early, and San José City College never let up.
The Jaguars overwhelmed Foothill College from the opening tip Friday night, cruising to an 84–26 conference victory behind relentless defensive pressure and balanced scoring.
San José held Foothill to just eight first-quarter points and built a 23–8 lead after one. The gap widened quickly in the second quarter as the Jaguars outscored the Owls 29–7 to take a commanding 52–15 halftime advantage.
By the third quarter, the outcome was no longer in doubt.
Synise Byrd led the Jaguars with 20 points, seven rebounds, and five steals, knocking down three 3-pointers to pace the offense. Kaydin Meyer added 12 points and six rebounds, while Daven Woodham contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and seven steals in a disruptive defensive effort.
Rian Henderson chipped in 10 points and five rebounds, and the Jaguars' bench made a strong impact. Luciana Ortiz dished out eight assists to go along with nine points, while Serenity McCoy and Madyson Wright combined for 10 points off the bench.
San José forced 29 turnovers and turned defense into offense all night, finishing with 23 steals and 24 assists on 32 made field goals. The Jaguars also controlled the glass, outrebounding Foothill 43–22, including 20 offensive boards.
Foothill struggled to find rhythm offensively, shooting just 20 percent from the field and 5 of 29 from 3-point range. Christine Nguyen led the Owls with six points.
The Jaguars shot nearly 48 percent from the floor and maintained intensity through all four quarters, holding Foothill to single digits in three of the four periods.
With the decisive home victory, San José continues to build momentum in conference play, showcasing the defensive identity and depth that have defined its season.
