Freshman Core Powers SJCC Volleyball as Tomasetti and Simmons Lead Breakout 2025 Season
San José City College leaned heavily on a talented freshman core throughout the 2025 women's volleyball season, with several first-year standouts emerging as major contributors on both sides of the net.
Outside hitter Jasleen Tomasetti led the Jaguars' offense wire-to-wire, finishing with a team-high 285 kills (3.43 per set) while taking on one of the heaviest workloads in the state at 751 total attacks. Tomasetti also delivered 236.5 points, averaging 2.8 per set, and added 48 service aces, making her one of SJCC's most complete threats.
Right behind her was fellow freshman Shylin Simmons, who matched Tomasetti swing-for-swing with 290 kills (3.49 per set) and a team-best 757 attack attempts. Simmons closed with 200 points, 32 aces, and consistent two-way play, though she carried one of the highest error totals due to volume. Together, Tomasetti and Simmons formed one of the most productive attacking tandems in the conference.
In the middle, freshman Kendra Valencia delivered a strong all-around campaign with 61 kills, 87 total points, and a .091 hitting percentage. She later contributed a separate line of 89 digs, showing her range as a two-phase player and adding 11 service aces across 83 sets.
Setter Julie Anne Masangcay was the engine behind the Jaguars' offense, distributing 410 assists (4.94 per set) while chipping in 25 kills, 17 aces, and 163 digs. Her 44.5 total points underscore her steady impact across all rotations.
Sophomore Jaida Centeno provided both attacking depth and back-row strength, finishing with 49 kills, 163 digs, 14 assists, and 70.5 points. She was also one of SJCC's more reliable servers, adding 18 aces and showcasing improved ball-control metrics in her second season.
Freshman libero Ashley Hafely supplied rugged back-row production, recording 239 digs, 21 points, and 10 assists, while fellow defensive specialist Naima Easter added 148 digs and 16.5 points across 74 sets.
Freshman Lisamarie Chavarria and sophomore Kassandra Domondon contributed in limited action, combining for 6 kills, 60 digs, and 21 total points, with Domondon adding a surprise 20 kills in her secondary stat line.
With nearly every major contributor returning in 2026, San José City College closes the year with a deep, battle-tested lineup built around one of the strongest freshman classes in recent memory.
