Jaguars Pull Away in Second Half, Defeat Monterey Peninsula 74–57
SAN JOSE, Calif. — After a slow start, San José City College flipped the switch in the second half.
The Jaguars broke open a halftime tie with a 52-point surge after the break and defeated Monterey Peninsula College 74–57 on Wednesday night in conference play.
San José and Monterey Peninsula were deadlocked at 22–22 at halftime in a defensive first half marked by missed shots and limited transition opportunities. But the Jaguars came out with renewed pace and purpose, turning defensive stops into easy baskets and steadily building separation.
Jeremiah Butler led the charge with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including two 3-pointers. The sophomore guard added four rebounds and three steals, helping spark the decisive run.
Savion Daniels provided a powerful presence off the bench, finishing with 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds for a double-double. Taj Royster added 13 points and nine boards, while Muhammad Singleton contributed 11 points, six rebounds and six assists in a well-rounded effort.
Will Hutcheon added nine points on efficient 4-of-6 shooting as the Jaguars controlled the interior, with 39 rebounds. San José finished with 20 assists on 30 made field goals, showcasing balanced ball movement throughout the second half.
The Jaguars shot 48 percent from the field overall, including a strong interior performance that offset a quiet night from beyond the arc (3 of 14 from 3-point range).
SJCC's defense tightened considerably after halftime, forcing 11 turnovers and holding Monterey Peninsula to 35 second-half points.
With the win, the Jaguars continue to build momentum as conference play intensifies, turning a tight contest into a convincing home victory in front of the SJCC faithful.
