Jaguars Take Doubleheader Nightcap Over Siskiyous in Ten
SAN JOSE, Calif. — After suffering a gut-wrenching extra-inning loss in the opener, San José City College answered in kind in the nightcap, rallying twice from deficits to defeat College of the Siskiyous 4-3 in ten innings Saturday at Lady Jag Field behind a walk-off RBI single from Ciara Donahoe.
With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the tenth, Donahoe lined a single up the middle to score Shelby Apostolo and send the Jaguars (5-7-1) rushing onto the field in celebration, salvaging a split of the doubleheader after their 3-2 extra-inning defeat in the first game.
The win belonged entirely to Priyah Quinonez, who was magnificent in the circle. The right-hander went all ten innings, allowing just three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out three. Quinonez improved to 3-4 on the season and bounced back one day after throwing four innings of relief in the opener.
Siskiyous (1-3) struck first and appeared in control, using a pair of first-inning sacrifice flies from Rylee Reasoner and Mia Perez to take a 2-0 lead. The Eagles threatened to pad that margin throughout, but Quinonez repeatedly pitched out of trouble, keeping San José close enough to fight back.
The Jaguars finally broke through in the sixth when DJ Martinez delivered a clutch two-run single to center field, scoring Belle Walker and Chevelle Quistian to knot the game at 2-2. Martinez was one of San José's most consistent offensive contributors all afternoon, finishing 1-for-5 with two RBIs.
Siskiyous reclaimed the lead at the top of the ninth on yet another Reasoner sacrifice fly, her third RBI of the game, scoring June Woster to make it 3-2 and putting the Jaguars one inning away from losing a second consecutive heartbreaker. But San José refused to fold. Jaelynn Corona came through in the bottom of the ninth with a clutch RBI single, scoring Izzy Gutierrez to tie the game at 3-3 and force extra innings for the second time in as many games on the afternoon.
The tenth inning belonged to San José. Quistian reached to start the rally, and Walker followed with a hit, setting the stage for Donahoe's decisive blow. Quistian was a steady force throughout the lineup, reaching base three times and scoring the tying run in the ninth.
Arianna Vergara also had a strong game in the field and at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two walks for the Jaguars, who showed resilience after an emotionally draining opener. Walker added a hit and two walks while Makenna Sieling contributed three sacrifice plays across a long afternoon for San José.
Siskiyous starter Alexis Perez allowed four runs on four hits over five innings, and reliever Caelli DePaul struggled in 4.1 innings, issuing seven walks before Donahoe ended it.
The Jaguars' split ensures they remain in the hunt as the season progresses, and Quinonez's iron-woman performance in the circle will be a memory Lady Jag Field fans won't soon forget.
