San José City College opened its 2025–26 women's basketball campaign with a thunderous statement Thursday night, dismantling Diablo Valley College 105–39 in front of a home crowd that saw the Jaguars dominate from start to finish.
The Jaguars raced to a stunning 35–6 first-quarter lead, pressing full court and converting nearly every possession into points. By halftime, the margin had ballooned to 50, and SJCC showed no signs of slowing down, piling up 70 points before the fourth quarter began.
Johnson Leads with Perfection
Freshman forward Hayley Johnson delivered a flawless debut, going 9-for-9 from the field and adding 9 rebounds, 9 assists, and 20 points—just shy of a rare triple-double in a single quarter of play. Her presence anchored the Jaguars' offense and energized the defense that forced turnover after turnover.
Team Depth on Full Display
SJCC's dominance was built on balanced contributions across the lineup. Kaydin Meyer provided interior strength with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Synis Byrd poured in 17 points on 7-of-20 shooting, including three triples. Sophomore guard Arianna Vasiliev came off the bench to score 12 points and pull down eight boards, and Daven Woodham added 10 points and seven steals, showcasing the Jaguars' depth and defensive intensity.
Every Jaguar scored, and 10 players recorded either an assist or a steal. In total, SJCC dished out 31 assists on 48 made field goals and forced 27 steals—numbers that underscored their teamwork and pace.
Relentless Pace and Pressure
Diablo Valley struggled to adjust to SJCC's tempo and physicality. The Vikings were held to single digits in two of the four quarters and were out-rebounded 44–0 in offensive efficiency stretches. SJCC shot an impressive 54.5% from the field, compared to Diablo Valley's limited scoring output.
Looking Ahead
The Jaguars' 105-point explosion marks one of the program's highest single-game totals in recent memory and sends an early message to the Coast Conference. With their balance, ball movement, and defensive bite, SJCC looks primed to be a contender in the 2025–26 season.
San José City College will look to carry that momentum into next week's matchup as they return to Percy Carr Gym, where they'll aim to keep their offensive rhythm and defensive intensity rolling.
