SJCC women overwhelm Foothill 85–42 at home
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Sacramento City College used a strong third quarter and timely outside shooting to pull away from San José City College for a 76–67 win in women's basketball Friday evening.
San José held a slim 36–36 tie at halftime after opening the game with a 19–16 first-quarter edge, but Sacramento City seized control coming out of the break. The Panthers outscored SJCC 23–9 in the third quarter, building a cushion they would not relinquish despite a late Jaguar push.
Synise Byrd led San José with 23 points, hitting 9 of 27 shots and connecting on three 3-pointers. Hayley Johnson added 18 points, nine rebounds, three steals and five blocks, while Kaydin Meyer contributed 10 points and nine rebounds in the paint.
Luciana Ortiz provided an early spark, scoring nine points and dishing out five assists in the opening half as SJCC kept pace through two quarters.
Sacramento City was led by Leilani Edinburgh, who scored a game-high 26 points off the bench, knocking down six 3-pointers and adding seven assists. Sierra Tuliau chipped in 24 points, including four 3-pointers, while Noelle Potratz posted eight points and 12 rebounds.
SJCC outscored Sacramento City 22–17 in the fourth quarter but could not overcome the third-quarter deficit. Sacramento City finished with 11 made 3-pointers and held San José to 37 percent shooting overall.
The game was played in San José with no technical fouls assessed to either team.
