Johnson’s 30 powers SJCC women past Chabot 72–36
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Hayley Johnson scored a career-high 30 points as San José City College overwhelmed Chabot College 72–36 on Friday evening in San Jose.
The Jaguars set the tone immediately, holding Chabot to just two points in the first quarter while jumping out to a 19–2 lead. San José continued to control the game on both ends, extending the margin to 40–13 at halftime and never allowing the visitors to mount a serious challenge.
Johnson was dominant inside, shooting 15 of 23 from the field while adding 10 rebounds and three blocks. Kaydin Meyer recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Synise Byrd and Ember Navarro added nine points apiece as SJCC showcased its depth.
Luciana Ortiz came off the bench to dish out nine assists, helping San José finish with 22 assists on 32 made baskets. The Jaguars shot 47.8 percent from the field and forced 28 turnovers, keeping steady pressure throughout the night.
Chabot struggled offensively, shooting 22.2 percent from the field and 4 of 19 from beyond the arc. Emily Chao led the Gladiators with nine points, while Sydney Muther pulled down 11 rebounds.
