San José City College rides Medina’s two-hitter to 8–1 win over Reedley
Jaguars pile up early runs, cruise in opener of Saturday doubleheader
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Jan. 31, 2026 — Maya Medina set the tone in the circle and the Jaguars did the rest with steady pressure at the plate.
Medina tossed a two-hitter and struck out seven, and San José City College scored in four different innings to roll past Reedley, 8–1, in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
The freshman right-hander worked around five walks and allowed only one mistake — a solo homer to Nevaeh Palomero in the fifth — while keeping Reedley off balance all afternoon. She retired the side in order three times and closed the seventh with her seventh strikeout to seal the opener.
San José backed her early.
Jaelynn Corona delivered the first blow in the second inning, lining a two-run double to center that scored Shelby Apostolo and Angelina Castro. The Jaguars added two more in the third on RBI hits from Belle Walker and Anaya Zambrano to stretch the lead to 4–0.
They never looked back.
Walker finished with two RBIs, Zambrano doubled and drove in a run, and Castro collected two hits and an RBI. DJ Martinez reached base three times, stole a bag and added an RBI double during a three-run sixth that put the game out of reach.
Chevelle Quistian chipped in a sacrifice fly, while San José's speed kept Reedley on its heels. The Jaguars swiped four bases and drew six walks, turning traffic into runs throughout the afternoon.
Reedley managed just two hits and struck out seven times against Medina. Palomero's fifth-inning homer accounted for the Tigers' only run.
San José finished with 10 hits and played error-free defense behind its pitcher.
For the Jaguars, it was the kind of clean, controlled performance coaches preach in the first game of a twin bill: strong pitching, timely hitting and pressure on the bases.
And it gave them momentum heading into the nightcap.
